Our 2026 Annual Patient Event draws to a close with thanks to our Birmingham hosts, recognition of the clinicians who support our community and the announcement of our destination for 2027 — Norwich.

After a full day of patient stories, clinical expertise, discussion and shared experiences, our 2026 Annual Patient Event in Birmingham came to a close with an opportunity to say thank you — and to look ahead.

Chair Anne Cotton began by recognising UK-AS for hosting this year's event and for their continuing support of Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland, presenting a commemorative certificate to mark our thanks.

Attention then turned to 2027, as Anne invited Simon Rose to join her and revealed that our next Annual Patient Event will take place in Norwich.

Simon has worked with the charity for many years and is closely involved with the THINK AORTA campaign and our podcast series. Bringing the event to his home city will also provide an opportunity to revisit one of the fundamental challenges in Aortic Dissection: awareness, education and diagnosis, with a particular focus on pre-hospital and paramedic medicine.

In this film

  • A thank-you to our 2026 hosts, UK-AS
  • Reflections on the Birmingham event
  • The announcement of Norwich as our 2027 host city
  • An introduction to our plans and focus for 2027
  • A special thank-you to the clinicians supporting our patient community

Vice Chair Professor Robert Sneyd brought the event to a close by recognising the clinicians who had given their time to join patients and families in Birmingham.

Their involvement, he reflected, goes beyond their everyday clinical work. Aortic Dissection can require complex emergency treatment followed by lifelong care, making the relationship between patients and the professionals looking after them particularly important.

And with that, Birmingham 2026 came to an end — while the countdown to Norwich 2027 began.

This presentation was recorded at the Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland Annual Patient Event 2026, held in Birmingham on 18 September 2026.
