Family Screening
Aortic disease can run in families, meaning that it can be passed down via the genes from one generation to the next. If a person has a family history of aortic disease, they may be at higher risk for developing the condition themselves.
See our THINK AORTA, THINK FAMILY campaign website if you want to understand more about how aortic dissection runs in families and what you can do about it.
We are also collaborating with the BHF Cardiovascular Sciences Research Centre at the University of Leicester in the DECIDE-TAD research programme, which we expect will lead to a national screening and treatment pathway for relatives of people who have an aortic dissection. You can read more about this on the DECIDE-TAD research study page.
