Patient charity team completes 1,375-mile ABLEJOG fundraiser

A team of 53 patients and relatives from Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland walked 1,375 miles - the distance from Lands End to John O'Groats - in October 2023.
Members of the national patient charity's Aortic Dissection UK Buddies support group set out on 1st October, aiming to complete the epic journey in a month, each logging their total distance every day on Strava.
Organiser Dan Burgess, an Aortic Dissection survivor himself, explains: "Within the group we have people with all sorts of ability. Some can walk 10 miles in a day, others are wheelchair users who can only manage to push themselves a short distance. We came up with ABLEJOG as a challenge that everyone can participate in and contribute what they are able. It's been fantastic to see all the different routes, mileages and photos posted on Strava and in our ABLEJOG Facebook group every day during October. We've had a lot of fun, done some exercise and it's really brought us together as a community."
Each of the 53 members of the ABLEJOG team raised sponsorship from friends and family, meaning that the challenge raised an amazing total of £4,750 for the work of the national patient charity, Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland.
