Leadership
Our charity is led by a diverse team of patients and relatives, supported by our professional medical advisors. The Trustees who lead the charity are all elected by our members and serve for a 3-year term.

Currently, five of our seven Trustees are patients who have had an aortic dissection. The remaining two Trustees are relatives of someone who had an aortic dissection - including one who is a bereaved relative. These seven "experts by lived experience" are supported by our two professional medical advisors Mr. Geoff Tsang (Cardiac Surgery) and Dr. Emma Redfern (Emergency Medicine), and by the charity's Aortic Specialist Nurse, Emma Hope, all of whom have a high-level of specialist clinical expertise in the management of aortic dissection .
In undertaking the day-to-day work of the charity, the Trustees are supported by a Management Committee of patients and relatives, including Dr. Gordon McManus our Head of Research, and a growing team of committed volunteers, including Lisa Skinner our Bereavement Support Lead. Together, we make up a dynamic yet friendly, approachable and compassionate Leadership Team with a single objective: to help everyone affected by aortic dissection in the UK & Ireland.
