Tributes paid to patient member Sharon Sewell
Posted on 22nd March 2024
A moving tribute to our patient member Sharon Sewell has been published in the Derby Telegraph following her untimely death, three years after Aortic Dissection surgery.
Sharon joined the national patient charity for Aortic Dissection and our AD UK Buddies private support group early in her AD patient journey, along with her best friend Toni, a tower of strength who would stop at nothing to ensure that Sharon received the very best care and information about her condition and had everything she needed to manage her life after surgery.
Sharon also became an ambassador for the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust, which aims to raise more money to fund research into the disease.
Chair of the national patient charity Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland, Mr. Gareth Owens, said: "Sharon responded to her Aortic Dissection with remarkable grit and determination, despite the health challenges that she faced afterwards. We know that her friends and family are grateful to Prof. Aung Oo and the Aortic multidisciplinary team at Barts Heart Centre in London for saving Sharon's life after her Aortic Dissection, giving her three more years to spend with them. Our hearts go out to them today as they mourn their loss. All of our members at the national patient charity are very saddened by this news."

Sharon's funeral will be held on 17th April at midday in Derby Cathedral.
