London Aorta 2023
Once again this year, we were asked to put together a patient interactive session for the prestigious London Aorta event. Opening the session, the Chair, Prof. Christoph Nienaber, said "This is the most important session of the entire conference - when we hear directly from our patients".
Event Details
Three of our patient members gave powerful presentations of their experience of Aortic Dissection care in London Aortic centres.
Simon Jones, a businessman in the computer gaming industry, talked about his experience of an acute Type B aortic dissection which is medically-managed by the team at St. George's Hospital.
Howard Dyson, a former army officer and retired businessman, talked about his experience of an iatrogenic non-A, non-B aortic dissection following a routine cardiac procedure, which was treated with a complex endovascular repair at St. George's Hospital.
Gareth Owens, Chair of our patient charity, spoke about his experience of an acute Type B dissection in Marfan syndrome, pre-habilitation and successful management of the five major risks of the open Aortic surgeries he had at Barts Heart Centre and the Royal London Hospital.
