Global THINK AORTA Meetup

Global THINK AORTA Meetup

The first-ever Global THINK AORTA Meetup on Sun 18th April saw THINK AORTA practitioners from around the world come together to share their work and ideas, in order to inspire others and drive the growth of our global campaign to save lives in acute Aortic Dissection.

The panel included speakers from the UK, Northern Ireland, North America, South America and continental Europe, covering pre-hospital medicine, emergency medicine, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and the all-important patient perspective.

Chair of AD Awareness UK & Ireland, Mr. Gareth Owens, said: “THINK AORTA saves lives. The free resources on our website www.thinkaorta.net are our gift to the world, to help solve the problem of misdiagnosis and delay in acute Aortic Dissection wherever it happens. We are so excited that a campaign started here in the UK, backed by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, the Society for Cardothoracic Surgery and Heart Research UK, is now a global, life-saving movement with many influential supporters.”

Bristol to host Aortic Dissection Awareness Day UK 2021

Bristol to host Aortic Dissection Awareness Day UK 2021

#ADADUK21

National patient association Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland today announced that the honour of hosting Aortic Dissection Awareness Day UK 2021 has been awarded to The Bristol Aortic Service.  The Association’s flagship annual event will take place on Thursday 16th September at the Bristol County Cricket Ground, when the theme will be ‘Responding to the Challenge of Acute Aortic Dissection’.

Announcing the award, Chair of the national patient association, Mr. Gareth Owens, said: ‘Each year we aim to recognise an Aortic centre that is doing excellent work in the field of Aortic Dissection and improving diagnosis and treatment for patients affected by this cruel disease, which kills more people in the UK than road traffic accidents. The Bristol Aortic Service, which spans two NHS trusts in the city, has impressed us with their teamwork across the Emergency Department, Radiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Cardiology, which has transformed the AD patient pathway and saved many lives. We want to highlight Bristol as an example of how the NHS should tackle the challenge of acute Aortic Dissection nationally’.

AD Awareness Day UK 2021, generously sponsored by Terumo Aortic, is an invitation-only event which approximately 200 patients, relatives, senior healthcare professionals and policy-makers will attend in Bristol. The event will also be livestreamed online to a global audience.

Further details will be posted as they are available on the dedicated #ADADUK21 page.
